Tree Characteristics:

  • Typically about 150ft in height and 3ft 3in in diameter, but can be more.

Characteristics of the wood:

  • Moderately soft, with medium coarse texture and even grain. It has white sapwood and pale brown to reddish brown heartwood.
  • It is not durable.

Workability:

  • Works well with hand and machine tools, but cutting edges must be kept sharp to avoid tearing the soft wood.
  • It glues well.

Average dried weight:

  • 26lb/cuft.

Finishing:

  • Can be finished satisfactorily with stain, paint, varnish, and polish.

Common uses:

  • Joinery (such as doors, windows and mouldings), light building construction.
