Tree Characteristics:
- Typically about 150ft in height and 3ft 3in in diameter, but can be more.
Characteristics of the wood:
- Moderately soft, with medium coarse texture and even grain. It has white sapwood and pale brown to reddish brown heartwood.
- It is not durable.
Workability:
- Works well with hand and machine tools, but cutting edges must be kept sharp to avoid tearing the soft wood.
- It glues well.
Average dried weight:
- 26lb/cuft.
Finishing:
- Can be finished satisfactorily with stain, paint, varnish, and polish.
Common uses:
- Joinery (such as doors, windows and mouldings), light building construction.
