Tree Characteristics:
- A tree of medium size, reaching about 80ft in height, with a long straight trunk about 2ft in diameter.
Characteristics of the wood:
- A moderately fine even textured wood, usually straight grained but can be slightly interlocked .
- A rather plain wood, with pale creamy brown heartwood and sapwood.
- It is a perishable wood unsuited to exterior use.
Workability:
- It works reasonably well with hand and machine tools, but cutting across the grain can cause break out if the cutting edges are not sharp.
- It glues well.
Average dried weight:
- 41lb/cuft.
Finishing:
- It takes stain, paint and varnish well, and polishes satisfactorily.
