Tree Characteristics:
- A large tree reaching about 130ft in height and approximately 5ft in diameter.
- Parkland grown trees have a broad crown, with large low spreading branches.
Characteristics of the wood:
- An aromatic wood, with light brown heartwood of medium fine texture.
- Clearly marked grain proudced by contrasting earlywood and latewood.
- It can be Knotty.
- It is a durable wood.
Workability:
- The straight grained soft but brittle wood works easily with hand and machine tool, but can be difficult around knots.
- It sands well.
Average dried weight:
- 35lb/cuft.
Finishing:
- The wood takes paint and polish well, and can be brought to a very fine finish.
