Tree Characteristics:

  • A large tree reaching about 130ft in height and approximately 5ft in diameter.
  • Parkland grown trees have a broad crown, with large low spreading branches.

Characteristics of the wood:

  • An aromatic wood, with light brown heartwood of medium fine texture.
  • Clearly marked grain proudced by contrasting earlywood and latewood.
  • It can be Knotty.
  • It is a durable wood.

Workability:

  • The straight grained soft but brittle wood works easily with hand and machine tool, but can be difficult around knots.
  • It sands well.

Average dried weight:

  • 35lb/cuft.

Finishing:

  • The wood takes paint and polish well, and can be brought to a very fine finish.

Common uses:

  • Interior and garden furniture.
  • Joinery.
  • Building Construction.
