Tree Characteristics:
- A large tree, reaching 165ft in height and producing a long straight buttreeeed trunk about 6ft 6in in diameter .
Characteristics of the wood:
- A relatively coarse textured wood, with interlocked grain.
- The light creamy coloured sapwood is in contrast with the medium to dark red colour of the heartwood.
- Quarted sawn boards display attractive ribbon grain figure.
Workability:
- It works easily with hand and machine tools but the surface can tear when planing.
- It glues well.
