Tree Characteristics:
- A relatively tall tree, reaching a height of about 150ft and producing a long trunk about 3ft 3in in diameter.
Characteristics of the wood:
- A durable wood, with straight to interloced grain.
- The yellow brown heartwood darkens to the colour of teak, which it resembles, though it is finer textured and not so oily as teak.
- Afrormosia can react to ferrous metals in moist conditions, causing black stains.
Workability:
- It saws and planes well and can be brought to a smooth finish, but care is needed with interlocked grain.
- It glues well.
Average dried weight:
- 44lb/cuft.
Finishing:
- It can be polished to a fine finish.
