Tree Characteristics:
- A tree of moderate size, it reaches about 100ft in height, but can be more.
- The tree produces a clear trunk some 4ft in diameter.
Characteristics of the wood:
- A soft straight grained wood, with fine uniform texture.
- The colour is white to pale yellow, with no distinction between sapwood and heartwood, but darkens to light brown on exposure.
- It is a strong wood, with good resistance to splitting, and is widely used for fine carving.
Workability:
- It works very easily with handtools and machines, but requires sharp tools for a clean cut.
- It is good for turning and excellent for carving.
- It glues well.
Average dried weight:
- 35lb/cuft.
Finishing:
- It stains well and polishes to a fine finish.

- Carving.
- Broom handles.
