Tree Characteristics:
- The tree reaches a height of around 120ft and produces a straight trunk up to 4ft in diameter.
Characteristics of the wood:
- A coarse even textured wood, usually straight grained with large rays giving an attractive ray figure.
- It is reddish brown in colour, similar to American red oak, the wood has only moderate strength, but is good for steam bending
- It is moderately durable for exterior use.
Workability:
- It works well with hand and machine tools, but the ray cells can tear when planing.
- It glues satisfactorily.
Average dried weight:
- 34lb/cuft.

- It stains well and polishes satisfactorily.
