Tree Characteristics:

  • A small shrub like tree, reaching no more than about 30ft in height.
  • It produces short lengths or billets, usually not more than 3ft 3in in length and up to 8in in diameter.

Characteristics of the wood:

  • A very fine, even textured wood, it is hard, dense and heavy, and can have straight or irregular grain.
  • Pale yellow in colour when cut, it mellows on exposure.
  • It is a tough wood and has good bending properties.

Workability:

  • A hard wood to work, but cuts very cleanly with sharp tools.
  • It is an excellent wood for turning on a lathe.
  • It glues readily.

Average dried weight:

  • 58lb/cuft.

Finishing:

  • It stains well and polishes to a fine finish.
