Tree Characteristics:

  • A medium size tree, reaching about 120ft in height, it has a long straight trunk with a flat crown of foliage at the top.
  • The trunk can reach 3ft 3in in diameter.

Characteristics of the wood:

  • Even textured straight grained timber, with inconspicuous growth rings.
  • Light brown heartwood, with dark brown core, often flecked with bright red streaks.
  • It produces large Knot free boards, but tend to buckle if not well seasoned.
  • It is not a durable wood.

Workability:

  • Easy to cut and shape with hand and machine tools, and can be brought to a smooth finish.
  • It glues well.

Average dried weight:

  • 33lb/cuft.

Finishing:

  • Accepts stain, paint and polishes well.

Common uses:

  • Joinery.
  • Furniture.
  • Turnery.
  • Plywood.
